The new Aged Care Act and Support at Home program will begin on 1 November 2025, aiming to make aged care safer, fairer, and more respectful for older Australians and the workers who support them.
The new Act will:
Place older people at the centre of care
Ensure safety, dignity, and choice
Create a fairer, higher-quality system for everyone
For aged care workers, the Act introduces changes in five key areas:
Statement of Rights and Principles
Worker screening
Stronger Aged Care Quality Standards
Improved complaints process
Whistleblower protections
These reforms will help workers provide safe, high-quality care, understand their responsibilities, and develop new skills to meet future care standards.
