Your new ways of working in aged care

The new Aged Care Act and Support at Home program will begin on 1 November 2025, aiming to make aged care safer, fairer, and more respectful for older Australians and the workers who support them.

The new Act will:

• Place older people at the centre of care

• Ensure safety, dignity, and choice

• Create a fairer, higher-quality system for everyone

For aged care workers, the Act introduces changes in five key areas:

1. Statement of Rights and Principles

2. Worker screening

3. Stronger Aged Care Quality Standards

4. Improved complaints process

5. Whistleblower protections

These reforms will help workers provide safe, high-quality care, understand their responsibilities, and develop new skills to meet future care standards.
